Are you planning a holiday to the island of Mauritius that’s surrounded by the breathtaking Indian Ocean? Well, then a well rated luxury 5 star resort should be at the top of your list of where to stay when visiting Mauritius. And no resort comes more recommended than the Lux Belle Mare resort in Mauritius.
In this review, I will be telling you my own personal, unbiased thoughts on my stay at the resort. As well as the best reason for you to choose Lux* Belle Mare as your home in Mauritius. Also, did I mention that I’m a Mauritian born Londoner? That’s right, my friends. Not only will you get the view of a Londoner, but also that of a Mauritian.

Where Is Lux Belle Mare Located
As the name implies, Lux* Belle Mare is an all inclusive resort in the Belle Mare region of the Flacq district in Mauritius.
It’s located on the Eastern coast of Mauritius, and East of the capital city of Port Louis.
Flacq is a district famed for its beaches, and I’m sure most would agree that Belle Mare public beach is the best in the region.
And the private beach at Lux Belle Mare is no exception. It will make all of your island dreams come true.
How To Get To Lux Belle Mare
Flying Into Mauritius
Whilst there are many airlines that fly to Mauritius, the 3 most popular airlines are, Emirates, British Airways and of course Air Mauritius. Especially if you’re flying to Mauritius from the UK, where it’s an adventurous 12 hours from London to Mauritius.
Emirates
Whilst I have flown with all 3 airlines to Mauritius, my favourite is by far Emirates. Not only is the stopover a good break to stretch your legs, but the comfort on board the Emirates Airbus A380 is a priceless experience. From the onboard entertainment to the food and leg space, it’s an enjoyable experience for all.
And let’s not forget the turbulence. You will undoubtedly always experience turbulence when flying to Mauritius, but the size of the big plane makes the turbulence more bearable.

Booking.comTransfer from SSR International Airport To Lux Belle Mare
The best way to get from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport to Lux Belle Mare Resort is by car. You’ll typically have three options. Taxi, prearranged transfer arranged via the resort or hire your prebooked car for collection from the airport.
If you’re after a taxi, the cheapest way is to pick up a taxi outside the airport. They will be able to transport you to the hotel in under 1 hour and 30 minutes. And if you can stay awake long enough, you’ll be able to enjoy the coastal drive from the airport to the resort.
9 Reasons To Stay At Lux* Belle Mare Resort & Villas
1. Warm Welcome
The very first thing that you’ll notice when you arrive at Lux Belle Mare Resort & Villas, is the kindness of the staff here. The Mauritian hospitality is so welcoming that it genuinely felt like I was coming home to my family.
And their hospitality isn’t just limited to the welcome, you’ll find this consistency throughout your stay. From whipping up local remedies to help with an upset stomach to organising special dinners and having lots of friendly chats everywhere. My family and I felt beyond cared for.
If there’s one memory that we took back from here, it’s the fond memory of the staff. And I’m sure that you’ll agree on the same during your stay. It’s no wonder that they are well rated on TripAdvisor.
2. Accommodation
Next up is the suite or villa that you choose to stay in. Personally, I opted for a junior suite, and it had plenty of room for 3 adults.
Here’s what you can expect at Lux Belle Mare Resort & Villas:
- A super comfortable double bed and double sofa bed
- A walk in closet with plenty of room for all your belongings
- Luxurious bathroom with a bathtub, shower and separate toilet
- TV
- Patio with outdoor seating area
- 3 fluffy robes and slippers to lounge in
In short, the Junior Suite at Lux Belle Mare Resort and Villas will have everything that you could possibly want. And everything is clean and modern with a bright, fresh, and airy feeling to the room. Given that you have a tropical paradise on your doorstep, the interior design is definitely one that adds to the experience.
3. Swimming Pool
At the centre of the resort, you’ll find the main attraction. The swimming pool. The pool, here at Lux Belle Mare, is the centre of life that’s filled with hustle and bustle. Swiftly after the breakfast rush, you’ll find every poolside lounger filled with adults whilst their little ones splash away in the swimming pool.
That being said, it isn’t the noisy mayhem that you would expect when there are lots of little humans running around. It is a great balance of life and peacefulness, so don’t let that put you off from enjoying the swimming pool or lounging poolside.
But yes, if you are a pool person rather than a beach person, then you may want to consider opting for a room near the swimming pool. This is so that you can run out and claim your sun lounger first thing in the morning by delicately placing your towel on it.
Otherwise, chances are, you won’t get a spot to lounge by the pool all day long. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
4. Beach
If like me, you’re also a water baby, chances are that you’ll be heading to Mauritius to swim at one of its beaches. And as mentioned before, the private beach at Lux Belle Mare is one of the best beaches to swim at on the East coast.
You can expect long stretches of white sand with day beds to lounge on and a full serviced menu so that you don’t have to move an inch from your seat. You can simply lay there all day with a mocktail in one hand and the world’s best corn on the cob in the other.
When you’re finally ready to move from your seat, the warm Indian Ocean will be there to greet you. Whilst the North is famed for its powdery sand, you’ll find the occasional rough edged rock in the sand here. However, this won’t interfere with your swimming, as the water here is deep enough to get some exhilarating laps in.
5. Activities
A stay at Lux* Belle Mare Resort & Villas can be as active or as relaxing as you like. However, if you’re craving something more than sun, sand and sea, the expansive list of activities here will keep you entertained.
TOP TIP: Be sure to download the Lux* app to view and book the activities available each day.
The activities available at Lux Belle Mare are:
- Beach horse riding
- Swim with dolphins
- Snorkelling
- Parasailing
- Glass bottom boat
- Kayaking
- Stand Up Paddle boarding
- Tennis
- Beach volleyball
- Outdoor yoga
- A game room with a carom board
If you have never played carom before, I highly recommend sitting down with your group for a game, that would guarantee some high-spirited fun. You’ll find a carom board at almost every Mauritian grandma’s house. This is always a game that comes out when the family gets together.
If you’re after water activities, you should head down to the beach shack, and they’ll be able to organise it for you. If you’re after land activities, such as yoga by the gazebo, you’ll be able to book it directly from the app.
Do note: some water sports require pre-booking from the day before or first thing in the morning on the day.
6. Entertainment
When it comes to nightly entertainment, Lux Belle Mare delivers a new show every night. And they do it with style. You’ll be able to see what’s the theme each night at the K-bar by checking the activities calendar on the Lux* app.
Sega Night
To get a true taste of Mauritian culture, make sure you stop by for the Sega performance on Mauritius’s cultural night. If you aren’t familiar with Sega, it is a style of Mauritian song and dance that started off as a way for slaves to express themselves freely.
Today, it’s still sung in the local language of Creole and danced in the same fun and elegant manner.
Film Nights On The Beach
If you’re looking for something more relaxing in the evening, you should head to the film night held on the beach a few nights a week. You’ll be able to relax on a beach chair in candlelight with a Boho style cinema screen for the perfect island film experience.
7. Lux Me Spa
If you’re looking to relax and unwind, you can head to the Lux Me Spa at Lux Belle Mare for a relaxing time. You’ll be able to choose from a menu with a wide array of treatments on offer. These include massages, mani-pedis, facials and more.
From the moment you walk in, you’ll be put at ease from the water fountains in the lobby. You’ll then be escorted to your treatment room, where you’ll have your treatment.
In terms of prices, you can expect the treatments to be priced similar to London high street prices. But cheaper than London hotels. So go ahead and treat yourself!
8. Food And Drink
Halal Food For Muslim Travellers
For the Muslim travellers staying at Lux* Belle Mare Resort & Villas, you can be rest assured and eat your heart out here. As the meats served at Lux Belle Mare are all Halal, (with the exception of pork, of course). Even then you won’t have to worry, as you’ll find that the non halal food is served separately from the Halal, and is clearly labelled to prevent any confusion.
Also, given the large number of Mauritian Muslims on the island, the staff here are thoroughly knowledgeable about what is Halal or not. So if you’re ever unsure, be sure to check with them.
So without further ado, let’s jump right into the food and drink outlets available at the resort.
Amari by Vineet – Michelin Starred Chef
If you’re looking for a place to have a special dinner during your stay at Lux Belle Mare, then look no further than Amari by Vineet. Not only was the food here the best that I had at the resort, but it’s the best Indian restaurant on the island. Trust me, I tried a couple of the other “best” restaurants.
From the moment you step in, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a world of luxury. From the staff’s welcoming to the decor, you’ll feel like you’re in your own little haven. And then of course there’s the food. My god, where do I even begin!?
Everything that you get will not only be pleasing to the eye, but it will be lip-smacking delicious. From the starters right through to the main and dessert, you can’t go wrong here.
TOP TIP: The portions are very generous, so you may not want to over order.
Beach Rouge – Beach Front Restaurant
For a smart casual lunch overlooking the ocean, or a dinner basking in red light, Beach Rouge is the place to come. Here you can expect steaks, seafood platters, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers and more at lunch.
Dinner only expands on the varied menu and includes an 8-12 course of tapas, tuna steaks, grilled chicken and beef tenderloin, pizzas, pides, pasta and more.
So there’s definitely something here for everyone. And yes, Beach Rouge do cater for vegetarians and vegans.
Mixe – Buffet
Mixe is your standard resort buffet with top class service. They are open for breakfast and dinner, with a different theme every night. There are numerous stations with different food available.
From light bites to hearty meats, desserts and more, there is everything that you could possibly desire here. And the best part is, it changes every day, so you won’t get bored.
K-Bar – Lunch With A View
For a scrumptious lunch with a view, K-Bar has your back. Located at the southern end of the pool and the Mixe restaurant, you’ll find the K-Bar there. There are two seating areas, but my favourite is outside on the patio overlooking the Indian Ocean. You’ll be seated under a thatched straw beach umbrella with a round table and bar stools.
And the food does justice to the view. I hands down had the best burger during my stay here.
Ice – Freshly Made Mauritian Ice Cream
For freshly churned ice cream in exotic flavours such as chilli tamarind and chilli mango, Ice is the place to come. Not only does it have a fresh coconut water shack next to it, but there’s a wide range of ice creams and sorbets to keep you cool in the warm Mauritian sun.
If there’s a flavour that you want them, and they don’t have, they’ll even whip it up for you!
9. Wi-Fi – Great To Work From The Beach
The Wi-Fi at the Lux* Belle Mare Resort is so impressive that I had to include it in this review. Honestly, I was waist deep in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and I was still able to FaceTime my family back home without signal cutting out.
And the strength of the Wi-Fi on the beach is so flawless that it makes a great location to work from. If, like me, you dream of relocating your office to the beach, Lux Belle Mare is the place to come to.
