This golden hot chocolate recipe with black seed oil will literally change your life.
If you’re not familiar with the concept of golden hot chocolate or golden latte, well you are in for a treat. And the best part, no trip to the jeweller or the Willy Wonka factory is required ?.
The term golden hot chocolate has come around from the scrumptious concoction of adding turmeric into a hot chocolate. Whilst the concept of it is new to the western world, turmeric milk is a popular drink across Asia and known locally as ‘haldi doodh’ in India.
And yes, this Golden Hot Chocolate Recipe With Black Seed Oil is Vegan friendly.

You’re probably wondering what is all the fuss about? So let’s get straight into the health benefits of the special ingredients in this recipe.
Personally, I had pulled this Hot Chocolate recipe together to assist with my recovery from Covid-19, and subsequent infections as I battle with long Covid. Alone, my very picky taste buds wouldn’t have been able to digest these ingredients. But together and mixed with my favourite drink, it was perfect.
Turmeric, Putting The Gold In Golden Milk
First, our key ingredient of the day, Turmeric. Turmeric and in particular its most active compound curcumin have many scientifically proven health benefits. Studies have shown that it can help prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and even cancer.
However, it’s for its naturally potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that Turmeric has become such a popular ingredient in health drinks.
The curcumin found within turmeric works to reduce the levels of inflammation in the body. It has been proven to have positive effects on people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease and many more conditions. And if that wasn’t enough, turmeric is also considered to have anti-ageing benefits.
Black Seed Oil, Cures Anything Except Death
For our second ingredient, we are understanding the health benefits of black seed oil. And why I’ve chosen to include it in this Golden Hot Chocolate Recipe.
Black seed oil is the oil extracted from the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant also known as Kalonji or black cumin. Prophet Muhammad PBUH famously said that Nigella Sativa has the ability to cure anything except death itself. Ever since, it has been popularly used across the Islamic world, and in traditional medicine for over 2,000 years.
In modern times Kalonji has been proven to have antioxidant properties, and we all know how much we love those. When it comes to the health benefits, studies have shown that kalonji aka nigella seeds can:
- Lower cholesterol levels
- Have cancer-fighting properties
- Help kill off bacteria ranging from a simple infection to pneumonia
- Help to reduce inflammation
- Regulate blood sugar levels
- Prevent stomach ulcers
- And more!
As someone that was trying to fight off a Covid-19 infection and then a follow-up chest infection, it was a no-brainer to give black seed oil a go. Especially as it’s Prophetic medicine mentioned in a hadith.
Honey, Honey, Honey
Last on the list of our super ingredients is Honey. I’ve included honey in this Golden Hot Chocolate recipe as an alternative to sugar. And the best part, honey is considered as being 100% empty calories, so drink it up!
However, in terms of health benefits, honey has been proven to have many benefits, including:
- Being rich in antioxidants which can help to lower blood pressure and improve heart health
- Improving cholesterol levels
- Healing wounds and fighting infections due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
Now I don’t always include honey, as ever since I was a kid, my body sometimes agrees with it and at other times it doesn’t. If you’re usually intolerant to honey, I would skip it on this occasion too.
